At Whybridge Junior School, we aim to embed and deepen skills of Maths Mastery within lessons and develop them consistently over time. This will allow our children to be confident, competent and independent mathematicians.

Through our Maths Mastery approach we are confident that Whybridge provides a high-quality Maths curriculum, which promotes confidence, enjoyment and inspires curiosity.

To help promote and deepen conceptual understanding, children are encouraged to use a wide range of quality manipulatives, pictorial representation and models. In every lesson, children practise fluency in their times tables, daily arithmetic practice and reasoning for all with extensions that allow the children to push their learning on.

We also want students to develop a growth mindset so they are not afraid to take risks and make mistakes, where hands-on exploration and peer-to-peer discussion creates excitement and builds positive attitudes.

Through Teaching for Mastery, we intend for our children to develop a deep-rooted and long-term understanding in all areas of Maths.
